“Artists and sponsors can’t live one without the other. To make sure everyone keeps true to their word, we have, according to plan, collected the conscience of all the artists and their sponsors. We have disseminated it and we shall grow it” said graphic artist Jūratė Rekevičiūtė. Two linen sacks containing soil were seeded with grass as a symbol of conscience this Thursday in the Communication History Museum. The act marked the third cultural project “Now Art Now Future” – the print Biennial “Present Time/ Esamasis laikas“.
Graphic artist J. Rekevičiūtė and her assembled team along with the Klaipėda Cultural Communication Center extended the project for the third consecutive year, with the goal of promoting modern art and familiarizing art aficionados with various streams of graphic art and providing open access to all who wish to participate in the creative process. Just as the previous years, this year’s Biennial will take place not only in Kaunas, but in other cities as well. Events with relation to this project will be presented in Vilnius, Klaipėda and Šiauliai. The first event “The Beginning/Pradžia” was manifested both in Kaunas and Šiauliai at once. The website of the project www.nowart.eu was presented in the Communication History Museum.
The organizers also showed the film of last year’s Biennial and the conception of the Biennial itself. It contains 141 words. The participants of this year’s Biennial will create pieces that are connected with at least one of the words presented in the conception.
The gallery “Laiptai/Stairs” in Šiauliai hosted the opening of Olga Mikulina’s exhibition of graphic art this Thursday. The organizers of last year’s project had involved prisoners of the Panevėžys penitentiary for women. One of them - O. Mikulina, is now released and continues her creative track. Both events were joined with a direct connection by video and sound.
The Biennial will be continued on July 22-29 in the courtyard of the Communication History Museum in Kaunas. The engaged artists will create graphic objects for the viewing pleasure of the citizenry of Kaunas. Anyone who wishes to learn a graphic technique will have a chance to participate. Equipment of technology used for creating graphic pieces will be erected in the courtyard.
During the summer, the biennial will continue in Klaipėda and will proceed to Sweden. In the winter, this year’s biennial will be crowned by a project in Vilnius. This Biennial, continuing over a period of four years, will finish in 2008.
